Comments from the episode #1 finalists

"I want to express my deepest gratitude toward the friends I made during the filming of The Song --the cast, the crew, that includes the interns that absolutely ROCKED, you made this an extra special experience where I added life-long friendships and some pretty darn good heart & soul advice to my arsenal. This excursion I'll always remember."

- Cat

"When I learned I had been included in the Top 15 contestants for the very first episode of a new songwriting reality show, I was cautiously excited. I had absolutely no idea what to expect.  Then when I got to Muncie, of all places in the world, last week to meet the other contestants, producers, and crew, the caution was gradually chipped away. I felt honored. For 5 days, life was truly surreal. At no point did I know what would happen more than 7 minutes in the future.  I feel such incredible gratitude. For the opportunity, for the artistic growth, and of course for any positive ripple effects being on the show may have on my career."

- Mike

"Coming from Canada there are very few opportunities like this and I was so blessed that I was able to audition and be chosen as one of the top 15...You all have worked so hard behind the scenes and I wanted to express how grateful I am. All of the contestants that were chosen were not only talented but equally as kind. That is hard to come by sometimes. All I can say at this point is that I wish it could have lasted longer!”

- Christie

"I'll be honest - I went in not knowing what to expect. I was skeptical about appearing on a reality show. However, this show surpassed every single expectation I had to the point that I cannot stop talking about what a great experience I had. This show is truly a labor of love, done for all of the right reasons, and I am 100 percent proud to have been a part of it. I can honestly say that I've seen that future, and it's The Song."

- Jerzy

WHAT IS THE SONG?

The Song is a reality television show that will premiere in the Fall of 2016 on network television and will feature artists/songwriters performing their original music.

Artists/songwriters will perform their original songs for a panel of judges comprised of  top industry professionals. The panelists will select the artist and their song to then be taken to “The Workshop” where the artist's determination, dedication and passion will be put to the test through a grueling musical boot-camp working with an opinionated, yet highly successful, music producer and his team.  Together, they will have 48 hours to convert the original composition into a world class arrangement and production, ready for a national release. The home audience is along for the ride. As each hour ticks by, pressure mounts and nerves are raw, as the artist will be opening for a national act, debuting the newly reworked song for the very first time for a packed house and the home audience.

IS THE COMPETITION OPEN TO DIFFERENT STYLES OF MUSIC?

Absolutely! All genres of music will be featured.  The strength of The Song is in its diversity of styles...  from Rock, Hip Hop, Country, Pop, and R&B - all writing and performing styles will be showcased.

HOW DO I ENTER?  IS THERE A FEE?

Entering is easy, and costs nothing.  We aren't interested in your money, but we are interested in your talent.  To enter, you must submit a video no longer than 2 minutes.  30 seconds introducing you, your personality and your song to the producers, and 90 seconds of you performing your original song.

We will not be judging you on the quality of your video. But, the better it is, the better your chances.  Just make sure we get you at your best.  After you are satisfied with the video, upload your submission to YouTube or Vimeo and press the "ENTER YOUR SONG" button below.  This will open your email app and be sure to type in your name, age, email address, telephone number and a link to your uploaded video on YouTube or Vimeo.  We can't watch it if you do not include the link.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FEE! This is your show, your song, your platform, your opportunity.

HOW & WHAT DO I WIN?

If you and your song are selected by the Judges and the Producer, and you win your episode, you will return for the Finale, all expenses paid.  If you and your song are selected as the season winner in the Finale, your life will likely be changed forever as you will receive a cash prize, a recording contract, production and recording of your song, radio promotion, and you will be the opener for a major national tour to get your music heard.

Deadline for submissions are 11:59PM PST on Sunday May 22, 2016

120 Seconds...  That's all you have!  Create a video.  You have 30 seconds to tell us about yourself, show your personality and intro your song, and 90 seconds to perform your song acoustically.  If it is 121 seconds the video will be rejected.  You need to sell it!  Our concern is you and your talent; so, create an audition tape that will get you noticed.

UPLOAD

Upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo and copy the link.

PRESS THE "ENTER THE SONG" BUTTON BELOW

Do not enter unless you are able and willing to travel to the Indianapolis area for the live auditions.  Again, this is your stage, your opportunity,

what you make of it is up to you.  We need to see you at your best.  You have 120 seconds, please make the most of them.

FAQs

Q: How many songs can I submit?

A: No more than TWO!

Q: Does the song have to be recorded live or can it be a filmed video?

A: It must be an acoustic version with no more than one instrument, and YES, it must be a live version.

Q: If we get chosen to come to the live auditions, does the show provide backline?

A: YES, but if there's something specific you need that's part of your performance, you should bring it.

Q: If we get chosen to come to the live auditions, can we perform to a track or does it have to be live instruments?

A: Everything must be LIVE.  That is the main premise of the show.

Q: Do I have to sign a contract?

A: Yes, eventually if you make it to the live auditions and you are selected, there will be paperwork that you will need to review and sign.

Q: Can I perform a cover song?

A: No, all songs must be original.

Q: What if I am a co-writer on the song but the rest of it was written by someone else, i.e. a former band member, etc..?

A: They will need to sign a sync. license that allows us to air the song AND your performance on national tv.

Q: What if I’m a writer but can’t sing?

A: This is a great question.  We are allowing 2 people on stage if necessary.  If you are the writer and the musician, you can accompany the artist in their performance.
